Members and supporters of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) political party held a march in Durban on Friday, rallying behind KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
The march began at Curries Fountain Stadium and proceeded to Hoy Park, where the party delivered a memorandum demanding the commissioner’s protection and voicing strong criticism of the current government administration.

The march follows Commissioner Mkhwanazi’s recent media briefing, in which he reportedly exposed alleged deep-rooted corruption within the South African Police Service (SAPS). His disclosures have sparked national attention and renewed calls for accountability across various state institutions.
The MK party’s memorandum outlined serious grievances against the ruling administration, citing high unemployment rates, deteriorating public services, and systemic corruption.

The party demanded the resignation of President Cyril Ramaphosa and advocated for people-centred governance.
“The constitution is being undermined to protect political elites. This constitution was not meant to protect South African citizens, it is used to enslave us further,” MK Deputy Coordinator Shirley Willemstad stated.
Participants expressed strong support for Mkhwanazi and said they believe he represents a turning point in fighting corruption. Some attendees voiced their demand for transparency in court proceedings related to allegations against Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu.

“We are tired of corruption. If Mkhwanazi has evidence about Mchunu, we fully support him,” said anMk member, Mnqobi Zulu.
Ndabezitha Biyela, MK’s Chairperson of the Disaster Unit in eThekwini, emphasized the party’s unwavering commitment to backing Mkhwanazi.
“We are willing to march every day until our demands are met.”
The MK party has signalled that this march is just the beginning of broader mobilisation efforts aimed at systemic reform and increased accountability across government institutions.
