Lee Langeveldt’s delight at having reached last season CAF Confederation Cup semifinals knew they were so close yet so far in playing the final, but he was not going to bask in the journey of their CAF success for too long.

The Stellies shot-stopper was already looking forward to the next big goal, one that has eluded them since they gained promotion to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) in 2019.

“Every season the coach wants us to win one trophy,” said Lee, adding that it is only four games to play to win the MTN 8 trophy.

AmaZulu will travel to DHL stadium this afternoon, kickoff is at 3pm. Three hours later in Pretoria, Mamelodi Sundowns will host Richards Bay FC in the same competition.

The winners in both games today will join Orlando Pirates and Sekhukhune United FC in the semifinals and the draw will be made immediately after Sundowns match which will take place at Lucas Moripe stadium this evening.

The draw will be made immediately after Sundowns match and the four progressing teams will have a chance to play in a home and away fixtures.

Lee said it won’t be an easy game as AmaZulu have a good coach in Arthur Zwane. But it is all about who wants it most.

He (Steve) has always wanted to win this particular trophy.

“This is a stortest route to a trophy and we are going to fight for it and go all the way to the final and hopefully we win it,” Lee said.

Stellenbosch FC finished the 2024/25 season in third position and their target this season would be to finish higher than last season both in domestic league and CAF.

Steve Barker’s boys know that to replicate what they did last season they needed to double their efforts in each and every single game they play and remain humble.

The experience the boys gained from playing CAF football last season will surely come in handy this time around to help the team to accomplish their goal of winning this competition. Many of Stellies players were their first time playing in Africa last season hopefully they do well and take the learnings, apply them in the MTN 8 and the league.

The 2025 MTN8 tournament, marks 18 seasons of elite football, fierce rivalries, and fan-fuelled passion.

This year, the iconic top eight showdown comes with an exciting twist. MTN8 is stepping beyond the pitch, turning every match into a culture-infused celebration of music, fashion, lifestyle, and fan identity.

The defending champions Orlando Pirates FC progressed to the semis after beating Polokwane City 2-nil yesterday at Orlando stadium.
