The Joburg Market is proud to announce its participation as a senior partner in the 2025 Agricultural Transformation Lekgotla, hosted by Food For Mzansi. The highly anticipated event will take place on Wednesday, 13 August 2025, at Batter Boys in Pretoria.

As Africa’s largest fresh produce market, Joburg Market continues to play a critical role in connecting South African farmers with buyers across the country and the continent. This partnership underscores the organisation’s commitment to advancing agricultural development, expanding market access, and promoting economic transformation within the fresh produce sector.

Joburg Market’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Sello Makhubela, will join an esteemed panel of industry leaders to unpack transformation challenges in the fresh produce market, guided by findings from the Competition Commission report. The discussion will focus on identifying practical solutions to address barriers facing producers, promoting fair trading practices, and fostering inclusive growth in the food system.

“The Joburg Market is committed to working with all stakeholders to create a more transparent, competitive, and inclusive marketplace. The Lekgotla provides an important platform to drive conversations that can lead to real and lasting change for our farmers and the agricultural sector at large,” says Mr Makhubela.

Through its partnership with Food For Mzansi, the Joburg Market aims to strengthen collaborations that empower emerging farmers, enhance food security, and contribute to a more sustainable agricultural economy.
