In a powerful display of unity and collaboration, the Durban Metropolitan Police Service (DMPS) joined eThekwini Mayor Councillor Cyril Xaba yesterday, in welcoming over 200 members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to the city.

The event marked a significant milestone in fostering institutional partnerships aimed at enhancing safety, cultural exchange, and international solidarity.
The visiting delegation, composed of Junior Commanders from the South African Army College in Pretoria, is currently on a nationwide study tour exploring South Africa’s rich historical landscape.

Their ranks were further enriched by learners from various African and Asian nations, underscoring the global significance of the engagement.
Commissioner S.W. Mchunu, Head of DMPS, emphasized the strategic importance of building robust relationships with the SANDF and other key stakeholders.

“Collaborative efforts like these are essential in advancing our shared mission of creating safer, smarter, and more united communities,” he stated.
Mayor Xaba, speaking at the welcoming ceremony, expressed his deep honour at receiving the delegation following a request from the Chief of the Army. “Durban stands as a beacon of peace, learning, and cultural exchange.

This visit reaffirms our city’s role in promoting harmony and understanding across borders,” he said.
Representing the SANDF, Major-General Zama conveyed heartfelt appreciation to the Mayor and the DMPS, describing the reception as a continuation of the enduring partnership between the Army and the City of Durban.

As the delegation continues its tour, the DMPS remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing these vital relationships, ensuring that Durban remains a model of cooperation, resilience, and community-driven safety.
