Momentum acknowledges the extraordinary efforts made by excellent athletes through the SHE Owns HER Success.

The annual event is held to educate and celebrate women in sport, and this year’s Women Who Make Moves In Sports summit saw a lineup of specialists in various areas of expertise share their knowledge and skills with the athletes. The event took place in Joburg on the 8th – 9th of August.

The concept of appreciating and recognising women has gained nationwide prominence and, as a result, Mzansi athletes are encouraged to look after their finances, health and wellness and not wait until they retire to do so.

The summit is celebrated in conjunction with the Women’s Day, and women who attended the event don’t just leave the venue empty-handed, Momentum has some goodies to offer them, since it’s inception three years ago.

Ezimtoti News spotted Banyana Banyana head coach, Desiree Ellis who was also an attendee at the summit.

The 62-year-old fan favourite coach who spoke fondly about her late father being her strength in everything she does, said she will be flying home to Cape Town this afternoon to spend time with her mother Natalie.

“Tomorrow is my mum’s birthday. She was born on the 10th of August,” Desiree said with a big smile on her face.

“Just after the Momentum event I’m flying home so that we can make preparations for her birthday.”

She said her brothers, sisters, as well as her cousins and everyone else that’s invited will be at her mother’s home tomorrow to celebrate with them.

She said as a family they have been celebrating Women Day every year after her mum’s birthday.
