SAPS-led school search and seizure operations across Gauteng are continuing, with Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebogang Maile, having joined and led operations at 23 schools so far. On Wednesday, 9 September 2026, MECMaile will once again join law enforcement and security partners as the Department continues its efforts to tackle crime, substance abuse, gangsterism and the possession of dangerous weapons in Gauteng schools.

The school safety operations continue on an ongoing basis, including on days when the
MEC is not present.

Previous searches have resulted in the recovery of knives, suspected illegal substances, disposable vapes, cigarettes and other prohibited items from school premises.
