As part of the Gauteng Provincial Government’s enhanced efforts to strengthen law enforcement through e-Policing initiatives, a significant milestone has been achieved in the fight against crime using technology.

On 18 July 2025 in Sandton, 17 Gauteng Traffic Wardens and 3 Gauteng Traffic Police officials from the Central and Western Corridors officially graduated as certified drone pilots. This milestone marks a crucial step in combating lawlessness more effectively.

Present at the ceremony from the Gauteng Department of Community Safety were Chief Director of Corporate Management Services Ms. Ntombi Manamela, Chief Provincial Inspector Mr. George Raftapaulos of the Gauteng Traffic Police Air Wing, Director of Information Technologies Ms. Joei, among other dignitaries.

In his opening remarks, Chief Inspector George Raftapaulos addressed the graduates, stating, “This is when the real work begins,” emphasizing the need for constant vigilance in the field. He reminded the graduates that their newly acquired skills could be called upon at any time.

Two graduates were recognized for outstanding performance during the training: Nokthula Ndlovu and Maria Mukwane. Instructors from UAV Industries—the company contracted to conduct the training—praised both for their exceptional performance and dedication, noting that they consistently outshone their peers.

In her closing remarks, Chief Director Ntombi Manamela expressed heartfelt appreciation to the wardens for advancing Premier Panyaza Lesufi’s vision of a safer Gauteng. She commended them for demonstrating that those who are trustworthy with small responsibilities can be entrusted with greater ones.

She further emphasized that the successful completion of the training reflects the discipline and commitment of the wardens in building a Gauteng where all residents are and feel safe.
