A media briefing was held at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. It was led by Gauteng MEC for Finance and Economic Development, Lebogang Maile, together with Bertie Grobbelaar, the CEO of Stadium Management South Africa (SMSA).

MEC Maile gave an update on tourism in Gauteng. He spoke about how big events help bring visitors to the province, create jobs, and support small businesses, especially in townships. He linked this to the province’s plan called Growing Gauteng Together Vision 2030.

Maile said Gauteng wants to earn over R30 billion from international tourism and attract 2 million international visitors. He explained that the province is using events, stadiums, and attractions to reach these goals.

After the briefing, the media took a tour of FNB Stadium to see new tourism facilities and experiences.

Bertie Grobbelaar, head of SMSA, spoke about the stadium’s role in tourism. SMSA manages FNB Stadium through a public–private partnership. Grobbelaar said the stadium is ready to host major events and welcomes visitors from around the world. His comments showed how stadium operations connect with tourism and the province’s economic plans.

The event started at 09:30, and journalists were asked to arrive by 09:00. It was an opportunity for government, stadium management, and the media to share ideas on boosting tourism and using Gauteng’s world-class venues to attract more visitors.
