The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 kicked off in style in Morocco, marking the start of Africa’s biggest football celebration. The opening ceremony lit up the stadium with African music, culture and colour, reflecting unity and pride across the continent.

The opening match saw hosts Morocco face Comoros in front of a packed and energetic crowd. Expectations were high, and the hosts felt the pressure early on. Morocco dominated possession but struggled to break down a disciplined Comoros side in the first half. A missed early penalty added tension to the occasion.

After the break, Morocco showed their quality. Brahim Diaz opened the scoring with a calm and well-taken goal, lifting the crowd and settling the home team. As Comoros pushed forward in search of an equaliser, Morocco struck again. Ayoub El Kaabi sealed the match with a spectacular finish, ending the game 2-0 in favour of the hosts.

Comoros earned respect for their fighting spirit and organisation, while Morocco proved why they are among the tournament favourites. The win placed Morocco in a strong position in Group A and sent a clear message to the rest of the field.

With world-class stadiums, passionate fans and top African talent on display, the AFCON 2025 opener delivered excitement, drama and quality football. A promising start to what is expected to be an unforgettable tournament.
