The City of Johannesburg condemns the unlawful and disruptive conduct that occurred during the PFA Steering Committee meeting on 19 June 2026.
Management attended the meeting in good faith to provide an update on the implementation of the PFA and reaffirmed its commitment to honouring the agreement in a financially sustainable manner.
Following management’s presentation, unauthorised individuals entered the meeting venue and allegedly prevented management representatives from leaving, resulting in the intervention of JMPD and SAPS.
The City views these actions as unacceptable and contrary to the principles of constructive labour relations. Disciplinary processes have been initiated against those allegedly involved.
The City remains committed to engaging organised labour in good faith and finding sustainable solutions to fulfil its obligations under the PFA, while ensuring the safety of all employees and upholding the rule of law.
