Like many women breaking barriers, she occasionally encountered people who questioned her place in the cockpit. Rather than allowing those moments to define her, she chose professionalism over frustration and perseverance over doubt.

Commercial pilot training demanded more than passion, it demanded financial discipline, patience and extraordinary sacrifice.
She worked while completing her pilot licences part-time, relying on a student loan to finance her ambitions while carefully managing every cent.
Her experience has inspired one of her strongest messages to aspiring pilots: research every opportunity thoroughly before committing financially.
She encourages young people to seek mentors, attend aviation events and learn directly from professionals already working in the industry.
She also highlights the importance of financial planning, noting that student funding options, including specialised commercial pilot training loans, can open doors many aspiring aviators never realise exist.
Behind every successful pilot, she says, is usually someone who believed in them first.
For her, those people were her parents and several remarkable women in aviation who became mentors, role models and guiding lights throughout her career.

Steyn’s own journey unfolded steadily rather than spectacularly.
After earning her Commercial Pilot Licence over three years, she spent a decade flying for a regional airline before freelancing for another two years.
Ironically, one of the flights that changed her future wasn’t from the cockpit, but from the passenger cabin, travelling with her dog aboard a LIFT flight.
Inspired by the airline’s culture, she applied to Global Airways to fly for LIFT.
That decision transformed both her career and her quality of life.
Today, she treasures not only the opportunity to fly modern Airbus aircraft, but also the balance that allows her to enjoy life beyond aviation.
For Steyn, success has never been defined solely by aircraft, uniforms or prestigious titles.
