CONSISTENCY IS KEY-KAZE

There will be no resting on any laurels for Kaizer Chiefs following their impressive 2-0 shut-out of Stellenbosch FC last Sunday That’s the message from assistant-coach, Cedric Kaze as they shift attention to facing Polokwane City in the Club’s opening home match of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season at FNB stadium on Wednesday evening.

“We are already on to our second game of the week. The schedule is a little tighter than we would have liked but we are looking forward to our first home match of the season. We are all very focused. Fortunately, we didn’t suffer any injuries or suspensions in the last game, and we will have a couple of players back and available for selection,” he told the assembled media on Tuesday.

Kaze emphasised the need to develop consistency in the team’s performance, which was an Achilles heel for Amakhosi last season.

“We are building a culture of togetherness and you can see the players pull together even in the difficult moments, for example, when we were under pressure near the end of the first half against Stellenbosch. We are aiming for consistency, which we lacked last season because we want to be near the top of the league throughout the season,” he added.

His sentiments were echoed by defender, Inacio Miguel, who proffered, “It’s very important to start off on the right footing so we are happy with the win on Sunday, But that is done now and we have to focus on the next game. You need to perform at a high level every game and this is something we are determined to improve from last season.”

Goalkeeper, Brandon Petersen, whose goal was not breached by Stellenbosch, reminded the audience that results are the only thing that determines success.
“As a ‘keeper, a clean sheet is always welcome, although more important, I think, are the three points. I’m not saying it’s better to win a game 6-5, but it’s better than a 0-0 draw. The result is ultimately what counts more,” he stressed, “However, it is crucial to have a solid defence, as a collective, and this season we have addressed where we wrong in the past and it showed on Sunday. Therefore, we are going into tomorrow’s game with the intention of scoring goals and not conceding.”

The Betway Premiership encounter between Kaizer Chiefs and Polokwane City kicks off at 19:30 on Wednesday, 13 August at FNB stadium in Nasrec.
