GAUTENG DEPARTMENT OF E-GOVERNMENT HOSTS E-WASTE CONFERENCE

The Gauteng Department of e-Government will host a two-day e-Waste Conference on Thursday, 09 October and Friday, 10 October 2025 at Thabo Eco Hotel in Klipriviersberg, Johannesburg. This conference aims to create a collaborative platform for consultation with key stakeholders including Gauteng Provincial Government departments, municipalities, higher education institutions and the private sector active in the green economy.

The primary objective of the conference is to facilitate discussions that will lead to the establishment of strategic partnerships necessary to accelerate the implementation of the Electrical and Electronic Waste Safety Disposal Management Strategy. The engagement will address global trends and challenges in electronic waste management, promote environmentally sustainable practices to minimise degradation, and explore how the e-waste sector can contribute to job creation within the green economy.

Additionally, the conference will focus on strengthening knowledge management related to Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and will provide practical guidance on safe and efficient disposal methods. A key area of discussion will include the exploration of technology-driven solutions such as artificial intelligence and digital applications to support the management of e-waste.
