TCL EXPANDS WITH COMPLIMENTARY ALCATEL RANGE OF COLOURFUL 4G PHONES

Table of Content

Leading global tech brand TCL has launched two vibrant, super-affordable smartphone models under the Alcatel brand that are designed for people who haven’t yet upgraded to 4G/LTE phones. The Alcatel A11SE and Alcatel A31 are priced at just R799 and R1,299 respectively, making them among the most affordable devices in the market.

The two new smartphones models are targeted at the millions of users in South Africa who still use old or basic 2G and 3G handsets. While mobile operators no longer have a formal deadline to shut down 2G/3G networks, they are expected to  start phasing these technologies out over the next couple of years.

“As a complimentary addition to our TCL portfolio, we’re bringing back the Alcatel brand known for its high-quality, entry-level phones,” says Ernst Wittmann, TCL Regional Manager for Southern & East Africa and Global Operator Account Manager for Africa. “We’re making it our mission to ensure that everyone can enjoy access to the latest mobile applications and experiences.”

The government’s recent removal of the 9% ad valorem duty on smartphones priced under R2,500 supports this goal, adds Wittmann. “Sunsetting 2G and 3G networks will unlock spectrum for faster 4G and 5G networks,” he says. “But it is important that no one gets locked out by this technology change.”

Alcatel A11SE – R799 prepaid

The Alcatel A11SE uses the Android 15 Go Edition, which runs lighter, saves data and offers a great experience in a low-cost phone. The phone features a compact 5-inch FWVGA display, ideal for everyday browsing, chatting and social media. It is equipped with a 2MP front and rear camera, perfect for basic photography and video calling.

The Alcatel A11SE has 32GB of storage, expandable up to 1TB via a microSD card, so there is plenty of room for apps and photos. The phone is powered by a 2500mAh battery for reliable all-day use. With support for dual nano SIMs, you can juggle different SIM cards. The sleek Space Grey finish means that the Alcatel A11SE looks good, too.

Alcatel A31 – R1,299 prepaid

The Alcatel A31 boasts a vivid 6.5-inch HD display that makes videos, games, and messages pop with colour and clarity. 5MP cameras on both the front and back allow you to take great everyday snaps and selfies. The device offers 64GB of internal storage, with microSD support up to 1TB if you need more space.

With a 5000mAh battery, the Alcatel A31 is built to go the distance. The smartphone runs a full version of Android 15 to give you an up-to-date smartphone experience. As with the Alcatel A11SE, the Alcatel A31has dual nano SIM support for flexibility and is available in a polished Space Grey finish.

“Available from September at participating retail stores”
