La Masia of Westbury were crowned champions of the Clinix Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge after a commanding 4-0 victory over Mofolo United in the men’s final played at Nike SHAPA, Pimville, in Soweto.

The final brought together two determined teams from Westbury and Mofolo, both of whom earned their places after strong semi-final performances. However, La Masia proved a class above on the day, delivering a disciplined and confident performance to seal the title in emphatic fashion.

From the first whistle, La Masia controlled the match with structured play, quick movement, and clear purpose. Their early goal settled nerves and set the tone for a dominant display. By halftime, they had taken firm control, and in the second half they added more goals to complete a convincing 4-0 win.

Speaking after the match, La Masia’s Ghanaian goalkeeper Cosmos Anokye, credited the team’s success to trust from the technical team and lessons learned from the past. He thanked the coach for giving him the opportunity to perform on a big stage, saying the team used the disappointment of last year’s early exit as motivation.

According to the keeper, weaknesses that cost them in the previous tournament were identified, corrected, and turned into strengths. He added that discipline within the squad was inspired by the opportunities the tournament offers players, including exposure, growth, and a pathway to higher levels of football.
La Masia Chairman Mr Nazier Baker praised the players for their professionalism and commitment throughout the competition. He urged the team to remain humble despite their success and to keep the momentum going. Mr Baker emphasised that the club’s main objective is to compete in the ABC Motsepe League (Gauteng), reminding supporters that La Masia first won the competition in 2017 during their debut participation.
In recognition of the players’ efforts, the chairman committed to rewarding the squad with bonus payments, describing the victory as a shared achievement. He also extended heartfelt thanks to the Westbury community and supporters, acknowledging their undying love, loyalty, and support, which he said continues to inspire the team both on and off the field.
The Clinix Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge once again proved its value as a platform for community football, unity, and player development. La Masia’s triumph not only secured silverware but also underlined their ambition, growth, and readiness for the next stage of their journey.
